It's a Girl!

It's official. We're having a little baby girl! I am completely surprised. Monte is claiming that he knew it all along. He is definitely going to be outnumbered with all the girls in our house. (Molly, Mimi and V)
We had the ultrasound tech put the answer in an envelope and then we went to Barnes and Noble to open it over coffee and treats. I guess the wives tale about girls liking sweets is right on! So much for the Ancient Chinese chart.
We are so excited and know all of you will be too. We needed more girls to add to our family. We are going out to eat to celebrate but feel free to give us a call. I'll add pictures later tonight.

Tuesday’s the Big Day

We have decided to find out what we’re having. Monte always wanted to know but I was leaning more towards the surprise. Now, after five months, I don’t want to wait any longer. I think it will help connect with the baby and I am too much of a planner to not know. We find out on Tuesday at our ultrasound. Be checking that night to find out!!

In the meantime, since it’s still 50-50 on the poll, here are what the old wives tales are predicting:

- I prefer sleeping on my right side: girl.

- Haven’t had extreme nausea: boy.

- Have been craving sweets: girl.

- Right breast is bigger than left: boy. (Sorry if it’s TMI!)

- Haven’t felt extremely moody: boy. (Monte may disagree.)

- Ancient Chinese Birth Chart: boy. (Supposedly 93% accurate.)

- Carrying the baby low: boy.

- Haven’t really had a lot of skin breakouts: boy.

- Monte hasn’t been gaining weight: girl. (Like that would EVER happen.)

- Gaining weight in my face: girl.

- I have been getting headaches: boy.

- Have been craving fruits and OJ: girl.

- I don't eat the heel on a loaf of bread: girl. (Unless it's french bread.)

- Pencil on a string method went in circles: boy.

It’s leaning towards a boy. Monte will be happy! We’ll see how accurate these are. For all you mommies out there, if you remember any of these being accurate, let me know which ones.

What we want:
Well, of course Monte wants a boy and I want a girl. We will both be happy either way though.

Girl or boy? I think you will be a:
I will be extremely surprised if it’s not a boy.

Names that we've been thinking of:
For a boy, we’ve been thinking about Oliver and for a girl we like Elise. These are very early ideas and nothing has been settled on. Any objections or other suggestions, let us know.

Pregnancy Reflections at the Halfway Point

What I least expected with pregnancy was:
How slow the process would go and how long it would take to really start to show. I guess I am just too excited!

Best advice I could give so far:
Don't be like me and start eating more than normal to make your belly bump pop out. It just makes other areas grow. ☺

The best bit of advice I've received is:
Learn to love hand-me-downs. Since baby's grow so fast and you never know what they might like, it's pointless to buy everything brand new.

The strangest advice I’ve received is:
This wasn’t really advice but someone told me that the more sex you have the more likely it’s going to be a girl. Don’t know how accurate that one is…

What I'm enjoying the most about my pregnancy so far is:
How excited everyone is to see me each day and observe my tummy to see if it’s growing. This took me a while to get used to but now it’s fun. I’ve learned that people love new babies and everyone has a different story to tell me about their experience.

What I'm enjoying the least about my pregnancy so far is:
Once five months hit, buying pants has not been fun! I am still holding off on the maternity wear. Those maternity pants really do scare me and I haven’t been brave enough to try a pair on. I'm thankful to the person who informed me to use hair ties to keep my pants up.

Food cravings:
Sweets! Maybe since it’s Halloween time and there is candy everywhere. It’s definitely not helping with my intense cravings.

Favorite pregnancy moment:
There have been many but our favorites were telling our family and friends, hearing the heartbeat for the first time and our first ultrasound.

The hardest thing for me to give up was:
A glass of red wine, especially with Italian food.

Pregnancy Symptoms I’ve experienced thus far:
Luckily no morning sickness, but I do get light-headed some mornings. Around 13-15 weeks, I was getting headaches and now these last couple of weeks it’s been middle back pain.

How we’re getting prepared for the baby:
• I have been going to pre-natal yoga. OMMMMMM!
• Erin and Jered gave us a bunch of toys and baby necessities to help us get started. Monte was a little freaked out when I came home with all of that. Now that he knows how much all that stuff costs he is cool with it.
• We signed up for a Childbirth/Lamaze/Child Care class. We may have to skip out if they make us watch an actual delivery.
• We have decided on a day care provider. She was referred to us by one of my co-workers. We went and met with her and she seemed perfect. Plus, it's close to our house/work and she can fit us in. We are relieved to have that decision made.
• I haven’t thought about the nursery yet. That will come shortly though.

What Monte’s enjoying the most about my pregnancy:

• Having a DD whenever we go out
• My ever-growing chest
• Admiring my growing tummy

My hopes:
That we have a healthy baby and the delivery goes as planned with pain that I can manage.

My fears:
There are so many but I try not to focus on them. As long as my hopes come true, I won’t have anything to worry about.
