I’m entering the third and final trimester, only ten more weeks to go. Here are some pregnancy reflections from the last couple months.
At my prenatal visits I learn:Everything is progressing according to plan. She is growing right on track, has a steady heartbeat, and is very active in my tummy. We’re still expecting her arrival on March 13. My blood pressure and urine tests all are good and I was happy to have passed the gestational diabetes test after all the sweets I have been eating. ☺
Buying maternity clothes was:Long overdue! Around six months I finally had to give in and buy some official maternity clothes. I don’t know why I was so reluctant to make the transition. I was most terrified of the maternity pants but once I tried them on, I was in love! After trying to squeeze into my other pants for so long, these were like heaven. It won’t be easy to go back! Gap Maternity has the cutest clothes by far.
Finding our pediatrician was:A Relief! We loved her right away and have Brent and Lois Starr to thank for referring us. She was very warm and open to all of our questions. Thankfully she will make a trip to the hospital to see the baby when she’s born. We’re lucky to have found such a great doctor on our first attempt.
The biggest change in my body has been:Probably my belly button. I no longer have an innie and it’s close to becoming an outie. ☺ It’s currently flat and only a matter of time before it pops!
My favorite change in my body has been: My hair. It’s so much shinier and healthier. On the downside, it grows so fast that I constantly need a haircut. I am also partial to my growing tummy.
Weirdest dream so far:I dream like crazy anymore. The first dream that stands out the most involves Tony and Hillary. In my dream, we told Tony and Hillary that we were expecting and they were so excited that they didn’t waste any time and started “trying” right then and there for a baby of their own. Don’t ask.
The other one was a little scarier. I dreamed that I had the baby and she was the size of a matchbox car. I kept losing her and freaking out. I would find her in the bottom of duffle bags and in the cat’s toy basket. One time she stopped breathing and I had to call a 1-800 number to get her breathing again. I’d say I’m a little anxious about becoming a mommy.
Most difficult adjustment: Sleeping, putting on shoes and socks, shaving legs, painting toe nails, bending over in general.
Babymoon Trip:We decided to take a trip to KC over New Year’s for one last hurrah before the baby arrives. We stayed down in the Plaza and got to live it up a couple of days. I got to indulge in some Cheesecake Factory cheesecake. Yum! We also got to hang out with Tony and Hillary while we were in town. It was a nice little getaway.
Anxious About:Getting the baby room done by the time the baby comes, getting our house organized and ready for the baby, making sure I will have all the necessities for her arrival, breastfeeding, how the pets will react, what kind of parents we will be, the delivery, finding the perfect name for her.
Excited About:My upcoming baby showers and getting to meet our baby girl for the first time.
How I’ve pampered myself:Lots of bubble baths for sore muscles. Monte got me a SPA gift certificate for Christmas that I am going to use for a massage and pedicure. Can’t wait! Prenatal yoga is also a must for my ever-changing body.
Favorite comment made so far: I’ll spare her the embarrassment and not name names but just today a friend asked me how much bigger I was going to get. Much more bigger!! This baby is going to at least double in size yet.
Noticeable changes in Monte:Now that my tummy is growing bigger and there are noticeable kicks and unidentified objects protruding out, I think Monte is realizing what’s happening in there. It is becoming even more real with each day. He has started wondering what kind of Dad he is going to be after noticing how needy his pets are.
Special purchases made to prepare for the baby’s homecoming:I bought her baby book last week and it was an emotional purchase for me. I can’t wait to fill it out as we watch her grow up together. I hope I can find time to keep it up-to-date.
Upcoming baby class:Breastfeeding Class coming up in mid-February. Can’t wait!
My hopes:- She will be healthy.
- We will be good parents.
- She will be a good sleeper and eater.
- I will be able to handle the delivery.
- Monte will be able to handle with the delivery.
- I don’t hurt Monte during the delivery.
My fears:- That I’ll be overdue or go early.
- The baby won’t cooperate and I’ll need a C-section.
- One word: episiotomy.
- Overly long delivery.
- Drugs won’t work.
- Complications with me or the baby.
- A colicky baby.
